Intervention
This historical reading tries:
First talks about the problems of the income tax the hopes to eliminate it. The two options to eliminate were the Smith’s ideas and the triumph of Gladstone, one politician.
But anything passes, against, the income tax flourished in Britain.
The laissez-faire ideology don’t fulfill it purpose, though, the government policy was near, by the middle of the 19th centaury, to practice it.
Mid Victorian government was the interventionist in social and economic matters. And it grew how state in the intervention.
Locating the problems
We can see two important ideas in this reading: The Industrial Revolution and the huge population.
The first one was an extraordinary event, because it is the cause of the big step in the technology and economy.
The second one was the problem, but the main idea of the reading. It is another consequence of The Industrial Revolution. The huge population is the cause of other problems: crime, disease, unclean streets, hunger, supine sloth, unhappy existence, dissipation, reckless, paupers, etc.
I think it is an actual problem, because the pass in different ways, is so similar how the actual world.
